HISTORY BOYS

Alan Bennett's celebrated, award-winning play comes to Theatre on the Bay in a new production from the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA), directed by acclaimed theatre-maker Chris Weare.

Set in a Yorkshire grammar school, The History Boys follows a group of bright, ambitious students as they prepare for the challenge of Oxford and Cambridge entrance examinations. Guided by a team of eccentric and inspiring teachers, they are drawn into spirited debates about education, ambition, history, truth and what it really means to learn.
Equal parts hilarious, provocative and deeply moving, Bennett's modern classic remains as relevant and resonant as ever. Featuring Mark Richardson, Ashley Dowds and Gianluca Gironi, alongside the next generation of South African theatre talent from LAMTA, this production brings wit, warmth and intelligence to one of the most beloved plays of the twenty-first century.

The History Boys runs at Theatre on the Bay from 26 November to 12 December 2026.
