A South African stand up comedian’s refugee grandparents walk out of Lithuania with nothing, cross an ocean, and build a life at the tip of Africa. 100 years later, a baby boy is born in a barn, on the slopes of Table Mountain.
Told through real family photographs, ancestral documents, a level of research nobody asked for, and jokes delivered, as one critic put it, "like a machine gun" - MOUNTAIN JEW is the hilarious, at times poignant stable-to-stand-up story of half nature-child, half nice Jewish boy, half failed mathematician - Nik Rabinowitz.
